How to Write a Love Poem…

a disco ball reflecting green and blue all around

Hi All!  I attended a Love Poetry Workshop by Four Feathers Press that taught me to write a love poem just using the things around me.

This is how it went: Look around you right now and make a list of 10 things you see, no overthinking, just first 10 things. Then boom, write a love poem.

I was in the kitchen at the time and here’s what was around me: a tea kettle, wooden spoon, paintings, stove, dried chiles, glass, Gaia statue, candles, calendar on the fridge, and yes, a disco ball (we have lots of fun in the kitchen and somehow, we usually end up dancing, I think at least one room in a home wants a disco ball, too). I thought at first, hmm, how’s this going to work out but it did.  I toned this one down because if you know me then you know that the original was muy caliente! 🔥 spicy! 🌶️

Write a love poem, they said, it’ll be fun, they said, and yep, it was.  I hope you give it a try and share. I’d love to read your creation.

A Kitchen Love Poem

She is like a tea kettle, ready to burst

She is a wooden spoon held close to the fire

The ash used for finger painting

There is whistling on the stove

Hotter than the dried chiles in glass

She is round and strong, a Gaia statue

Pouring love into scented candles

Breathing into hearts on the calendar

Remembering kisses underneath a disco ball

    1. It’s so good to be back and thank you very much for the support and encouragement. Ohhh yes, many good kitchen dancing times. Sometimes it’s a slow sway to Harvest Moon or Another Shade of Pale and other times like jam night, we’re all shaking it whoop whoop & you’ve got the moves, sister! Good times, good times. 🪩 I hope to read your love poem from a list, too. 💞
